Why Buy Air Filters From Filter King?

In comparison to fiberglass filters, 16x18x1 pleated air filters are at least 20 times more effective. All Filter King air filters are made in the US.

Filters frames are made out of heat resistant paperboard with horizontal grid supports. Able to withstand temperatures of up to 200° F and resistant to moisture, the paperboard frames do not support microbial growth and outperforms traditional cardboard frames.

Chemical free, electrostatically charged synthetic polyester media is pleated, maximizing the surface area, to capture a high number of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns with low air flow resistance. To increase durability, the media is supported with a corrosion resistant steel wire.

What MERV Rating should I choose?
How Often to Change Your 16x18x1 Air Filter?
Filter King AC & furnace filters aren’t the typical fiberglass filters that need to be replaced every 30 days. Our filters can typically be used for 3 to 5 months before requiring to be changed. Naturally, a variety of things influence filter lifespan.
Some of the factors that influence your filter’s life include outdoor air quality, whether pets are in the home, and how well your HVAC system is maintained.
Your air filter becomes clogged over time by trapped particles, preventing airflow. The efficiency of the HVAC filter declines. Your system must work harder to heat and cool your home. The extra strain on the HVAC system causes higher energy bills. Regular home air filter replacements can prevent expensive system repairs or replacements down the road.
You should change your filter more frequently if you notice:
- Household dust build-up
- The air isn’t cooling as is used to
- There’s more dust near the air vents
- A dirty filter surface
- Higher energy bills
- Burning smells near your HVAC system.

Filter King 16x18x1 furnace filters (also available for your air conditioner) clean the air you breathe. Our product range includes three MERV ratings to choose from, each of which offers varying filtration levels. If you don’t know which one you need, that’s okay - we’re here to help.

Orders ship via FedEx Home Delivery and are typically delivered within five business days of shipment. Standard filters are eligible for return for 30 days. Custom filters are not eligible for return.
Is it Time to Change Your 16x18x1 AC Filter?
If you’ve been using the same filter for a while, it’s a good idea to inspect it. The longer you use it, the more airborne particles start to clog it. When it is dirty, your HVAC has to work harder since the airflow is blocked. As a result, your energy bill goes up, and your air quality suffers. If you’re constantly running your system with a dirty filter, your system can’t get the air flow it needs. Your HVAC may break down completely, leading to a potentially costly repair or replacement.
The lifespan of your air filter depends on several factors, such as whether or not there are pets in your home, your area’s outdoor air quality, and the media used. If you operate with a fiberglass filter, you can expect to change those monthly. Our pleated air filters allow most customers to go three to five months between replacement filters. Signs it’s time to change your filter include:
- Increased energy bills
- Dirt and dust build up so thick that you cannot see the filter media itself.
- Dust building up around your home
- Burning smells around your HVAC system
MERV Rating: What’s the Best Choice for Your Indoor Air Quality?
Your filter’s minimum efficiency reporting value, or MERV rating, is a consumer standard created by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). That means that no matter where you get your filter, filters of the same rating should provide the same filtration efficiency.
The MERV rating indicates how well the filter can remove contaminants and particulate matter from the air. The higher the MERV, the more efficient the AC filter is.
At Filter King, we offer 16x18x1 air filters in MERV 8, 11, and 13. For homes that need odor elimination, we also offer carbon filters. You'll get a pleated air filter that has greater surface air for better filtration. Our home air filters are an ideal choice no matter what your needs may be.
4-6 Rating: Best for Industrial Workspaces
Removes carpet fibers, pollen, lint and clothing fibers, hair spray, mold spores, fine dust, etc.
Filters classified in this range are not recommended for use in your home. They are, however, an acceptable option for areas that don’t require a lot of filtration, such as industrial environments. They are the cheapest option on the market today.
8-13: Ideal for Residential Use
Removes most mold spores, smog, dust mites, pet dander, common allergens
Filters within this range are the best air filters for homes. The one you should choose depends on your environment.
Good: MERV 8 Filter
The Merv 8 filter is sufficient enough for most homes. This is the best choice for homes that do not have pets or anyone with allergies or asthma. It provides enough protection to clear dust mites and dust mite debris but doesn’t work too hard to remove other contaminants. It removes particles between 3 and 10 microns in size.
Better: MERV 11 Filter
The MERV 11 filter is the best choice for homes with allergy sufferers or pet owners. The filters capture more contaminants than the MERV 8, such as mold spores and pet dander.
Best: MERV 13 Filter
If anyone in your home has a chronic health condition that affects breathing, such as chronic bronchitis, lung disease, or severe asthma, the MERV 13 filter is the way to go. It provides the highest filtration level recommended for residential use.
14-20 Rating: Suited for Medical Buildings
Removes viruses, tobacco smoke, sneeze and cough particulate, bacteria, etc.
Once you hit this MERV rating, it is often unnecessary for residential use. At this level, the filter removes virus carriers, bacteria, chemicals, and other micro allergens. That's why they are recommended for general health care facilities and in other situations where the cleanest possible air is necessary.
In theory, you could use filters of this level in your home HVAC system. However, the problem is that the units would have to work incredibly hard to filter the outdoor air at this level. This old overworked your system and ultimately shortens its lifespan.
FAQs: Commonly Asked Questions
Below are a few frequently asked questions about our 16x18x1 furnace filter.
When should I change my air filters?
You should change your air filter every three to five months, depending on how dirty the air filter becomes. If you deal with a lot of household dust, you may find yourself having to change the filter more frequently. The key is to pay attention to the air quality in your home and your energy bills. If you find that your HVAC system isn't as efficient as it used to be, it's time to change your filter.
A good rule of thumb is to inspect the filter media every month. If you find that it becomes so dirty that you can no longer see the filter media, you should change it regardless of how much time has passed since you last changed it.
What MERV rating should I buy?
The MERV rating you should buy depends on the people and pets who live in your home. If you don't have pets and everyone in the house is healthy, the Merv 8 is all you need. However, if you have pets, asthma, or allergies, you may want to try the murder of 11. If your home has many pets or anyone living with a severe health condition that affects breathing, the MERV 13 is your best choice. It has the strongest filtration for household dust, pet dander, and smoke. If you go any higher than this, your HVAC works too hard to filter your air.
Are your filters covered by a warranty?
Any standard size filter can be returned or exchanged within 30 days of purchase. However, custom filters are not eligible for return.
Do you offer discounts for bulk orders?
Yes, we do. Customers can purchase anywhere from one to six filters or a pack of 12. Orders with two or more filters may qualify for free shipping.
How long does it take to ship my order?
In most cases, shipping takes about two business days. However, certain circumstances, such as custom or international orders, may take up to five business days to ship.
