In comparison to fiberglass filters, 16x25x1 pleated air filters are at least 20 times more effective. All Filter King air filters are made in the US.

Filters frames are made out of heat resistant paperboard with horizontal grid supports. Able to withstand temperatures of up to 200° F and resistant to moisture, the paperboard frames do not support microbial growth and outperforms traditional cardboard frames.

Chemical free, electrostatically charged synthetic polyester media is pleated, maximizing the surface area, to capture a high number of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns with low air flow resistance. To increase durability, the media is supported with a corrosion resistant steel wire.

What MERV Rating should I choose?

How Often to Change Your 16x25x1 Air Filter?

Filter King AC & furnace filters aren’t the typical fiberglass filters that need to be replaced every 30 days. Our filters can typically be used for 3 to 5 months before requiring to be changed. Naturally, a variety of things influence filter lifespan.

Some of the factors that influence your filter’s life include outdoor air quality, whether pets are in the home, and how well your HVAC system is maintained.

Your air filter becomes clogged over time by trapped particles, preventing airflow. The efficiency of the HVAC filter declines. Your system must work harder to heat and cool your home. The extra strain on the HVAC system causes higher energy bills. Regular home air filter replacements can prevent expensive system repairs or replacements down the road.

You should change your filter more frequently if you notice:

  • Household dust build-up
  • The air isn’t cooling as is used to
  • There’s more dust near the air vents
  • A dirty filter surface
  • Higher energy bills
  • Burning smells near your HVAC system.

AC Furnace Air Filter: Premium & Long-Lasting

Residential homes rest in a variety of environments, which means that fresh air is not always guaranteed. Residential homes are susceptible to allergies during the warmer seasons, and depending on location pollutants are an issue too.

The 16x25x1 air filter helps clean air in residential builds, such as homes and apartments. A filter 16x25x1 is one of the most common air filter sizes and works with many home improvements. The air filter is easy to install in almost any home, and it can block airborne particles and other dust particles.

100% Made in the USA

The home air filter 16x25x1 comes from the USA. At Filter King, we manufacture all of our filters in our Alabama warehouse. Because of that, we can monitor the production and ensure your air filters can remove particles from the indoor airflow.

Is It Time To Change Your Air Filter?

If you have had your home air filter 16x25x1 for a while, you may notice your air quality isn’t as good as it was after the initial installation. This happens when the air filter traps pollen, pet dander, and other allergens. Any type of air particle can also get stuck in the filter.

As those particles accumulate in the filter, that can make the filter less effective. You should consider how many particles typically go through your air vents. The more that your air filters have to block, the sooner you will need to replace the filter.

If you’re unsure if it’s time for a replacement, you may need one. You should aim to replace the air filter before it blocks airflow completely or leads to other issues.

MERV Rating: Which Should You Use?

MERV stands for minimum efficiency reporting value, and it determines how efficient an air filter is and what it can trap. Our filters start with a MERV rating of 8 but go up to 13. That way, you can ensure your air filters will remove lint and particles that are common in your home or area.

However, you should consider that a higher MERV rating isn’t always better. A higher rating means a smaller mesh weave in the filter. If too many particles build up, it can block the flow of clean air into your home.

4-6 Rating: Recommended For Industrial Workplaces

Removes: Pollen, dust mites, carpet and clothing fibers, cockroach waste

Filters with a MERV rating of 4 to 6 are excellent for industrial use (not recommended for home use). A MERV 4 filter can remove about 75 to 80 percent of particles, while a MERV 6 filter can remove 85 to 90 percent. Most filters in this range are disposable and are either synthetic or fiberglass filters.

While the filters with these ratings can remove some large particles, they aren’t as efficient as higher ratings. Still, it can help to know what they can remove.

8-13 Rating: Recommended For Home Use

Removes: Lead dust, Legionella bacteria, milled flour, welding fumes, dust from humidifiers and nebulizers, coal exhaust, smog.

Moving up to MERV 8 through 13, these filters are perfect for home use. At Filter King, we offer filters with ratings 8, 11, and 13. All of these ratings are over 90 percent effective in removing certain contaminants. They’re also about 30 to 90 percent efficient, and thus saving you money on your electricity bill.

The filter media can remove much more than those with lower ratings, making them excellent for homes. Consider the most popular ratings in this category:

  • Good: MERV 8 Filter
  • At a minimum, MERV 8 filter can be appropriate for most residential homes. It can block up to 90% of airborne contaminants such as dust, mold, and pollen. Recommended for use in basic and standard homes and businesses.

  • Better: MERV 11 Filter
  • MERV 11 filter is a mid-level filter, a step higher than MERV 8, and can remove a much higher percentage of contaminants including pet dander and allergens. Its recommended for homes with pets and people with mild allergies or anyone looking for further filtration.

  • Best: MERV 13 Filter
  • In addition to filtering everything that MERV 11 filters can do, MERV 13 air filter can filter out smoke, smog, and virus carriers. MERV 13 provides the highest level of filtration and is suitable for homes with people that smoke, have severe allergies, asthma, and other respiratory issues.

14 - 20 Rating: Recommended For Hospital & Laboratories

Removes: Bacteria and viruses, sneeze and coughing droplets auto emissions and fumes, tobacco smoke, insecticide dust, face powder, microns, radon, carbon dust, salt, combustion emissions

Hospitals and labs should look for air conditioner filters with even higher MERV ratings. At this level, you’re dealing with odor eliminators. You need to have the cleanest air and smell possible, which means needing better filtration, even if you’ll need to replace the filter more often.

FAQs: Common Questions

Whether you’re looking for furnace filters or a general HVAC filter, you may still have questions. Consider a few things people commonly ask so that you can choose the best 16x25x1 air filter for you.

When Should I Change An Air Filter?

You should consider a few factors when deciding when to change an air filter. For one, consider if your air filter is reusable. If so, you can take the filter out and clean it before putting it back in. Ideally, washable air filters should be washed and re-installed once a month.

As a rule of thumb, you shouldn’t use a filter for more than 90 days. Some conditions may require you to change it even sooner such as when you have a pet in the house in which case 60 days would work well.

What MERV Rating Filter Should I Pick?

You should consider what pollutants you have the most. Consider what each MERV rating can remove so that you can choose one high enough to trap those particles. However, you don’t want to go too much higher, or else you’ll restrict clean airflow.

If you need an air filter for your home, you should look for those with a MERV rating of 8, 11 and 13. You don’t have to change or clean the filter as often as one with a higher MERV rating. If you are living with pets in the house or someone that has respiratory problems, then I recommend you look at MERV 11 or 13 ratings for better filtration.

Do You Have Warranty On Your Filters?
