In comparison to fiberglass filters, 18x36x1 pleated air filters are at least 20 times more effective. All Filter King air filters are made in the US.

Filters frames are made out of heat resistant paperboard with horizontal grid supports. Able to withstand temperatures of up to 200° F and resistant to moisture, the paperboard frames do not support microbial growth and outperforms traditional cardboard frames.

Chemical free, electrostatically charged synthetic polyester media is pleated, maximizing the surface area, to capture a high number of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns with low air flow resistance. To increase durability, the media is supported with a corrosion resistant steel wire.

How Often to Change Your 18x36x1 Air Filter?

Filter King AC & furnace filters aren’t the typical fiberglass filters that need to be replaced every 30 days. Our filters can typically be used for 3 to 5 months before requiring to be changed. Naturally, a variety of things influence filter lifespan.

Some of the factors that influence your filter’s life include outdoor air quality, whether pets are in the home, and how well your HVAC system is maintained.

Your air filter becomes clogged over time by trapped particles, preventing airflow. The efficiency of the HVAC filter declines. Your system must work harder to heat and cool your home. The extra strain on the HVAC system causes higher energy bills. Regular home air filter replacements can prevent expensive system repairs or replacements down the road.

You should change your filter more frequently if you notice:

  • Household dust build-up
  • The air isn’t cooling as is used to
  • There’s more dust near the air vents
  • A dirty filter surface
  • Higher energy bills
  • Burning smells near your HVAC system.

18x36x1 Air Filter

Filter King 18x36x1 air filters are an important part of your home AC systems, used to clean out air flow free of harmful allergens and pollutants. The filters consist of a tight mesh weaving that captures and absorbs particles coming through in passing air flow. The cleaned air flow will then cycle into your home and provide it with a fresh smell while the old air cycles out. Over time, the air becomes cleaned causing the filters to become covered in a layer of captured particles. The dirty air filters are a problem for their system and require replacement before several issues begin to develop.

Your home’s indoor air quality relies on filters and their ability to bring in the fresh air that is also cleaned as it is pumped inside. Your air filters are less effective when dirty, air flow is unable to effectively pass through into the duct system. Without fresh air, your home will suffer problems of stagnation and dryness. The air systems will also become strained, leading to costly issues including repairs and raised energy billing.

When you install new air filters, it helps alleviate many of the issues that result from dirty air filters being left in the system too long. We offer 18 x 36 x1 replacement air filters to replace the old and keep air flow coming in smoothly. Filter King offers a quality delivery service along with a subscription option to have them brought to your home as often as monthly. Our air filters have a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating of eight, the MERV rating shows how effective the filter is at blocking out irritants. Filter King air filters are able to block out particles like:

  • Pollen
  • Household Dust
  • Mold
  • Dust Mite Debris
  • Bacteria
  • Pet Dander
  • Smoke
  • Viruses

Is It Time To Change Your 18x36 Air Filter?

Each manufacturer has a set of their own air filter replacement guide that provides the exact change frequency. However, sometimes you may need to change your AC filter or furnace filter sooner than recommended due to one of the following reasons.

Reduced air quality and cooling inefficiencies

Reduced air flow and cooling inefficiency are one the common ways you can diagnose a filter that's due for a change. This normally happens when the filter media gets overloaded and your HVAC unit has to work even harder to keep everyone cool.

Increased power bills

Are you seeing your monthly energy bills skyrocketing? While they could be another valid explanation, your filters could possibly be one of the causes of your increasing energy bills.

Dirty air ducts and vents

The more overloaded your filters become, the more ineffective they become and therefore start to let through traces of household dust and dirt which then accumulate in your ducts and vents system.

Minor Headaches, Fatigues & Allergic Reactions

For homes with allergy sufferers, forgetting to change air filters can mean a huge difference. Even the slightest inhalation of dust mite debris can trigger a severe allergic reaction.

MERV Rating 8, 11 & 13: Which Should You Use?

Which MERV rating is ideal for your household? While the high-rated filters can trap out airborne particles more effectively than lower-rated filters, it's not recommended to go for the highest MERV-rated filter. In fact, such as MERV rating 20, are only recommended for labs, laboratories, hospitals, etc. Other types of environments with smaller HVAC systems, such as residential homes without anyone with mild to severe health conditions can do just well with a MERV rating of 8  which is appropriate for removing dust mites, mold spores, lint, etc.

MERV 8 Filter: Use this filter to remove common household contaminants such as household dust, pollen, mold spores, etc.

MERV 11 Filter: For homes with pets and people with mild breathing problems, MERV 11 filters may be a good start to protect yourself from allergens and pet dander.

MERV 13 Filter: If you're living in a home with someone that smokes or someone has severe breathing problems, this highest-rated residential air filter can help with smoke, smog, virus carriers, etc.
